Is DNA User code?

...and what does that mean for "genetic engineering"?

The "science" segment of a major network's evening newscast described
a new experiment in genetics--just a plan, at this point--which may result in
certain children having three biological parents.

The basic idea is to provide in vitro fertilization for a woman with healthy nuclei,
but weak mitochondria, by having her nucleus implanted in the egg of a woman
with healthy mitochondria.
Yeahhhh...

Anyway, that got me thinking about the actual genetic engineering that is going on,
all the time.

Everyone wants bigger, bug-proof crops and cures for diseases--it's almost like the whole planet's cursed with death and disease!  We have to do something.
Well, we've been looking for the key to this whole suffering and mortality problem
for thousands of years, and we've found it!

We have discovered a simple four-letter code that controls all life,
and we're scurrying day and night fiddling with it. It's so complex, we've hardly figured out the corner of it, but we're using it to modify lifeforms.
It is the most elegant thing in the Universe, this obviously artistic, obviously designed
detail-by-detail planning and operating system for every living thing.

Hey!  We're in!  Now we can do as we please!
Transform ourselves to the next level of humanity!   We shall be as gods.

Now, I don't care if you think it's "the universal consciousness" or "alien terrafarming,"
whoever it is, they're smarter than you.

What if they come back, expecting something of us, and they find out
you've hacked in and are already fooling with their finely tuned, highly sensitive system.
I hope they're "evolved enough" not to be upset.

Just sayin'.

He is coming back.  Try to look innocent.

Okay, here's your treat--
Remember being taught about the "simple cell"?
Here's a peek at what Harvard's medical school knows about what's going on in there.

By the way, if you're a believer who still thinks science supports evolution,
here's something to check out:

Hope it helps!

  1. Loved the video, oh Oblique one!

You're right; "intelligent selection" could, in no way ever, create something as infinitely intricate and precise as that beautiful video shows. A pastoral mountain lake or mitochondria, macro or micro, God's handiwork is so far beyond our conception we're just lucky to have the perception to at least appreciate a little of it all.

Of course science will do its best to explain it all away... that somehow this all "just happened". Paul said it best, "Professing to be wise, they became fools." Jesus is the key to all life (and a lot easier to say than YHWH). Paul also said: "The word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to those of us who are being saved, life." Hopefully the self-anointed scholars" among us will wake up and chose life before the final exam.

    1. I believe you meant "natural selection," the alleged process by which evolution supposedly operates. If it were "intelligent" that would undermine their entire premise, since even the idea of A Superior Intelligence offends them. Unless, of course, it's another species from space. (They're already starting to sell that one.)
Thank you for taking time to join the discussion, and come back next week. I hope you'll tell all your friends! :-)

  2. Right again, "natural" it is. Guess I got confused between God's infinite intelligence and our half-baked excuse that all that is "just happened".

Of course the running logic (and joke) is if there WERE "intelligent" life beyond this planet it would be staying as far away from us as possible.

We pat our backs for all the wonders our intelligence has "created" (including the internet and hardware that make this possible), while turning away from the source of the intelligence that made it all possible. It's nothing new though... just read the old testament: God would bless His people and they would repeatedly turn away from Him. Pogo got it right, "We have met the enemy and he is us."

    1. Thanks for the cogent comments! Of course, you reveal yourself to be a brother dinosaur with your "Pogo" reference--always great to see another of us still roaming the Earth,
By the way, did you know you can still comment on previous posts? I'd be interested in your views on those, also.
